Poets for Haiti
An Anthology of Poetry and Art
Yileen Press, 2011
On February 23rd, 2010 – six weeks after the city of Port-au-Prince was brought to its knees by one of the most destructive earthquakes on record – 18 remarkable writers including Robert Pinsky, Rosanna Warren, Gail Mazur, and Fred Marchant joined together on the Harvard University campus to demonstrate the power of the spoken word. That benefit reading was a vital and galvanizing event, and this anthology was created to capture some of the magic that was sparked that night. With stunning artwork from some of Haiti’s most prominent visual artists, the volume is itself a work of art – a testament to the power of collaboration and the culmination of an extraordinary project which continues to benefit Partners in Health and the people of Haiti.
From the Preface:
“…The words and images collected here are gifts to all of us: memorials to those passed, comfort to the mourning, and hope for Haiti’s future…This collection reminds us of all that was not lost in the earthquake: the drive to create; the strength of our community; the extraordinary perseverence of the Haitian people…”
